The concept of Women's Self Help Group is born in Bangladesh and Mohammad Younus is the father of Women's Self Help Group. Women's Self Help Group is a self voluntary organization & the main aim is to make capital formation for providing loan to the members at easy condition & to promote self employment. Group is an unofficial organization working on the basis of mutual trust and help. Self Help Group is not needed to be registered through any act. Group is formed of 10 to 20 members of same economic and social status. In group decisions should be made unanimously on the basis of equality. So far possible group should be formed of members related to the same economic status i.e. group of members above poverty line should be formed different from the group of members of below below poverty line.

Selection of members of Self Help Group can be done on following ways:

• Only Female members
• Only Male members
• Mixed members

Meetings of group should be done regularly atleast once in every month for estimating the work and activities of Self Help Group grading should be done atleast once in a month. Any department or agency can do grading as per necessity but generally grading is done by Panchayat & Rural development department and Women's & Child development department.

Activities done by the CGMFP Federation for the livelihood of Self Helf Group
For promoting livelihood oriented activities in Chhattisgarh a state level partnership program is operated by Federation from the Financial year 2006-2007 along with the partnership of European commission. This Project is completed at December 2016. After Completion of this project it is important to provide profit to the beneficiaries who are connected with the work done under this project.

For sustainability of work operated under European Commission project and aim to provide profit to the beneficiaries, a project named  "Minor Forest Produce based livelihoods work" of 7 years (from 2017-18 to 2023-24)  has been approved by Federation. Total Cost of this project is Rupees 29.50 Crores. The cost of this project will be fulfilled by the interest amount earned by Federation.
